Yesterday I tried my first Spin class at my local Y. It was far from what I expected. Before I go into details, I must give props to everyone who takes a Spin class regularly because it is not joke. Spin class is indoor cycling. You are on a exercise bike the entire time (except for the stretch at the end). While cycling, you listen to great pop music while doing different movements on the bike. You also adjust the resistance of the bike through out the class to ensure you fatigue the muscles. Even though you do break a sweat, I must say listening to Kylie Minogue while having the only light in the room be a disco ball (Yes the instructor turned the lights off and put on a disco ball for the entire class) defiantly made the pain in my legs a bit more bearable. The only complaint I have about the class was the seats hurt your rear end. The instructor did inform me before the class the seats were not that comfortable but that if I wanted to continue cycling regularly, you could purchase comfortable seat covers from Target or Walmart. Spin class was cool, but I am not sure if it is something I will do regularly. I liked that you get a good workout from the class but I prefer exercise classes that involve more movements. If you enjoy biking, a Spin class may be good for you during these winter months. All in all, even though Spin is not for me, it is a good workout and is worth a try. You never know, you may really like it!
